Practice Areas - Judgment Defense
Creditors obtain much more collection power if they have obtained a judgment against you. Judgments can result in garnishment of bank accounts, liens on property, and seizing of property with a writ of execution. The creditor can try many other tactics, such as post judgment discovery. With post judgment discovery, the judgment creditor sends you questions to answer about your assets or forces you into a deposition. These questions they ask you must be answered under oath and if you fail to answer them properly or at all, then you may eventually be held in contempt of court.
Judgments should be taken seriously. They can last for 10 years and can be renewed indefinitely. They can severely hurt your credit score. Do not simply assume that the creditor cannot collect from you or otherwise make your life difficult. If you have a judgment against you for a debt, let us examine your situation and see if we can assist you. We have helped thousands of consumers with debts and many of them have had judgments.
