Credit Card Lawsuit in Jurisdiction Dispute

A federal judge in Mississippi has been ordered to decide if Attorney General Jim Hood's lawsuit against six credit card issuers should remain in U.S. District Court in Jackson.

If the judge rules there is no federal issue to resolve, a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says the lawsuit should return to state chancery court where Hood originally filed it in June of 2012.

A federal judge in Jackson ruled the lawsuits, now combined into one, would remain in federal court. The judge, however, said he'd wait on a ruling from the 5th Circuit before proceeding.

Hood has challenged the companies' payment-protection products.

The companies argue the product safeguards a consumer's credit by making the minimum credit card payment in certain situations.
