Martinsburg man sues TRS Recovery over debt collection
MARTINSBURG – A Martinsburg man claims he was subjected to illegal debt collection practices.
Frank Ramsey filed a lawsuit Sept. 24 in United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia Martinsburg Division against TRS Recovery Services Inc., citing violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and violation of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act.
Ramsey says TRS Recovery Services contacted him to collect an outstanding debt beginning in July or August of 2013. Agents of TRS Recovery Services failed to disclose that they were debt collectors, repeatedly contacted plaintiff by phone after he notified them to stop communicating with him and continued to contact Ramsey after he notified defendant he retained counsel regarding the debt, the complaint says.
Ramsey is seeking damages of $1,000for each violation of the statutes and costs. Highland Park, Ill., attorney David B. Levin of Luxenburg & Levin LLC, is representing Ramsey.
